Understanding Occupational Lenses

Occupational Lenses
Occupational lenses are designed for close to intermediate tasks such as reading, writing and screen-work.
They have generally have a wider field of view, intermediate focal range in the upper part and reading in the lower part, but they can be either ‘office’ or ‘computer’ or ‘sport’ biased lenses which all differ in their focal ranges depending on your needs.
This does sound a lot like varifocals, and they are similar in many ways.
These lenses bridge the gap between reading glasses and day to day varifocals. The main differences are the lack of a ‘distance’ prescription and much wider field of view.

This video graphic demonstrates the difference between varifocals (also known as progressive lenses) and occupational lenses perfectly.
